Remote Learning at Kells Lane

Remote Education

In the event that pupils are unable to attend school — whether due to a local or national restriction, a period of self-isolation, or other exceptional circumstances — Kells Lane Primary School is committed to providing high-quality remote education that reflects the learning children would receive in school.

How we deliver remote education

We use Google Classroom as our platform for remote learning. Through Google Classroom, teachers are able to set work, share resources, provide feedback and maintain regular contact with pupils and families.

Where remote education is required, parents and carers will be notified promptly via our usual communication channels, including School Gateway and the school website, with clear information about how to access Google Classroom and what to expect.

What remote education looks like

Remote education at Kells Lane is planned to be:

  • Equivalent in length to the core teaching pupils would receive in school
  • Sequenced to follow our curriculum, so that learning continues without significant gaps
  • Accessible to all pupils, with adjustments made where needed for children with SEND or other additional needs

Teachers will set work daily and provide feedback regularly. We aim to maintain the same high expectations for engagement and progress that we hold in school.

Supporting pupils without devices or internet access

We recognise that not all families have reliable access to devices or the internet at home. Any family experiencing difficulties accessing remote education should contact the school office as soon as possible. We will do everything we can to ensure no child is disadvantaged, including exploring the provision of devices where needed.

Please contact us at KellsLane@klps.org.uk or 0191 433 4140 if you have any concerns about your child's ability to access remote learning.

Attendance and engagement

We monitor pupil engagement with remote education closely. If we have concerns that a child is not engaging with the work set, we will make contact with the family to offer support.
