Humanities
At Kells Lane, Humanities brings together Geography, History and Religious Education to help children make sense of the world — the places within it, the stories behind it and the people who share it. These three subjects are deeply connected through our curriculum drivers of Culture and Conservation, giving children the knowledge, vocabulary and confidence to think critically, ask big questions and see themselves as active citizens in a diverse and changing world.
In Geography, children explore the world around them — from their own neighbourhood in Low Fell to distant continents, oceans and environments — developing a real sense of responsibility for the planet they will inherit.
In History, children work as real historians, investigating evidence, making connections and understanding how the past has shaped the world today — including the rich local heritage right here in Gateshead.
In Religious Education, children explore a range of beliefs, traditions and worldviews, developing the empathy, respect and open-mindedness that are so important for life in modern Britain. Together, these subjects help every child at Kells Lane to become a thoughtful, curious and compassionate learner — and to Find Their Remarkable.
