Online Safety
At Kells Lane, we want every child to be as safe, confident and responsible online as they are in the classroom or the playground. The digital world is an exciting and powerful place — but it also brings risks that children need to understand, recognise and navigate with care. Online safety is not an add-on at Kells Lane; it is woven into our curriculum, our culture and our everyday conversations. It connects directly to our Communication curriculum driver, helping children understand how to communicate responsibly, protect themselves and others, and make positive choices in an increasingly connected world. We believe that a child who is safe online is a child who is free to Find Their Remarkable — and that keeping children safe is a responsibility we share with every family in our community.
Our online safety curriculum is delivered through ProjectEVOLVE — a carefully sequenced, progressive programme that runs from EYFS right through to Year 6. Alongside this, we use Pol-Ed resources to respond to emerging online safety issues as they arise within our local community, ensuring that our teaching is always relevant, timely and meaningful. Online safety is taught explicitly at least once per half term across all year groups, and our curriculum covers all eight strands of the Education for a Connected World framework:
- Self-Image and Identity
- Online Relationships
- Online Reputation
- Online Bullying
- Health, Wellbeing and Lifestyle
- Privacy and Security
- Copyright and Ownership
- Managing Online Information
Computing Curriculum Overview
Early Years
In our Early Years, online safety begins with simple, age-appropriate conversations about screen time, kind communication and what to do if something makes you feel worried or uncomfortable. As children grow and their use of technology develops, the complexity and depth of their online safety learning grows with them — building the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make safe and positive choices online throughout their lives.
Acceptable Use Agreements
At Kells Lane, all children agree to an Acceptable Use Agreement that sets out how they will use technology responsibly and respectfully. These are reviewed and signed at the start of each academic year.

Working with Families
We know that online safety doesn't stop at the school gate — which is why we work hard to keep families informed, involved and supported. Regular newsletters, whole-school assemblies and parent information sessions ensure that our school community stays up to date with emerging risks and the latest guidance. We also share information about the apps and websites your child uses in school each year — you can find this in the document below.
If you have any concerns about your child's online safety — whether at school or at home — please don't hesitate to contact us. You can speak to your child's class teacher, our DSL or the school office and we will respond promptly and sensitively. You can also find trusted support and guidance through the parent resources listed below.
