Geography

At Kells Lane, Geography takes your child on an exciting journey — from exploring the streets of Low Fell, Gateshead to discovering faraway continents, oceans and cultures. Each year, children dive into engaging topics like The Beachcombers, Come Fly With Me! and Been Around the World, gradually building their knowledge and skills as they move through school. In the younger years, children learn to read maps, use compass directions and explore their local area. By the time they reach upper school, they are confidently discussing climate zones, biomes and global time zones. Throughout it all, we nurture a genuine curiosity about the world — and help every child understand their place within it.

Geography is also where some of our most important values really come to life. As part of our Conservation theme, children explore urgent real-world issues like pollution, deforestation and climate change — not in a scary way, but in a way that leaves them feeling informed, motivated and hopeful. Topics like Global Warning and Under the Canopy encourage children to think about the planet they will inherit and what they can do to protect it. Through our Culture theme, children discover how people live, work and connect across the world — whether that's comparing their own community in Unity in the Community or exploring life in a contrasting country in Paddington's Passport. We want every child to leave Kells Lane having found something in Geography that sparks their passion — because at Kells Lane, we believe every child has something remarkable to discover.
