Design & Technology

At Kells Lane, Design Technology (DT) is a practical and inspiring subject where children learn to design, make and evaluate purposeful products using a range of materials, tools and techniques. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, children build creativity, problem‑solving and technical skills as they explore structures, mechanisms, textiles, food and nutrition, and simple systems. DT encourages children to think innovatively, take risks and reflect on their designs as they work towards real outcomes in meaningful contexts.

Design Technology links strongly to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning. Children apply scientific knowledge about materials and forces, use mathematics for measuring and planning, think like engineers when solving problems, and explore technology concepts in design and making. These connections help deepen understanding and show how learning in school relates to the world around us.
